So friends, I created a board post on Spotify discussion/community, and if the post reaches 100 votes, it will be reviewed by Spotify to consider being brought back. This allows you to scan a QR code on a friend’s device to instantly join their Group Session. If you’d like to join a session instead, select Scan to Join. When I logged in and had a hang session, and could not start the group queue, I was extremely saddened. Scroll down past your streamable devices and select Start Session under the Start a Group Session option. This feature was very underrated, but such a fundamentally good idea. After I introduced this feature to my friends, quite literally all of them utilized this feature in their own friend circles. Personally, I used this feature several times per week. This removes the factor of having to ask someone to play a certain song, or asking to borrow someones phone to queue a few songs. I used this feature whenever I had friends over, I'd offer everyone to join the queue so that everyone could contribute to the music that was being played, from their own phone. As the feature is still in beta, however, more changes are expected in the future. From my understanding, they have removed the old group session option to "play from the same device as xyz." This feature would allow Spotify users to share a group queue and individually contribute to this queue from their own personal device, and sync it to one device that was connected presumably to a speaker. However, all users must be premium members to participate. It will work but it shows the old UI for Group Session. If someone hasn't updated their Spotify mobile app or hasn't relaunched it a few times since last week when the Jam update came out, then it won't show the new Jam experience. In addition to listening to music together in real time, members of a Group Session will also be able to pause, play, skip, select, and add new tracks to the shared queue. I just did a test with 2 Spotify accounts on 2 different iOS devices. Tap Connect device Tap Start a remote group session. Previously, users had to scan a bar code, and so had to be in the same room to join the listening party. Start a remote group session and invite friends Open Spotify and play something. Click or tap the Connect menu in the bottom-left corner of the play screen and scroll down to 'Start a group session.' Since a recent update that has been continuously rolling out to users, the Group Session mode has changed a bit. 4) In the next view, tap Invite friends and then share. ![]() 3) Find and select the Start a remote group session option with a Plus (+) icon to host a group session. ![]() 2) In the Now Playing view, tap the Connect icon ( Available Devices icon) at the left-bottom of the screen. Target your desktop PC/MAC for audio output. 1) Open Spotify and play a song, podcast, or playlist you want to listen to. Use your smartphone app to open a group session. You can use Jam to listen together, no matter if you are listening together or apart. Users can access the new update by tapping the Connect button in the bottom left of the screen and creating a “join” link that can then be shared via social media (up to five people can join a listening session). Select how you want to share, or choose Copy link and send it to your friends. From there you can start a session like you can on mobile. How does this affect Group Sessions and Remote Group Sessions Jam combines the group session experiences you might have used in the Spotify app. Thankfully, the streaming platform has now announced that Group Sessions will let users host listening parties from anywhere in the world. But there was a catch: everyone in the group had to be within the same vicinity – a restriction that wouldn’t make much sense before social distancing became the norm, let alone now. Back in May, Spotify launched the beta version of a new feature called Group Session, which allowed premium users to play, queue, and skip songs at the same time.
